Keep it simple! Dave Ramsey style freedom reduces stress
April 21st, 2008 | by admin |A relative of mine recently told me about a ‘get rich quick’ type scheme he was mulling over. I didn’t have to hear but about 2 syllables before my “Stupid” meter was buzzing. I won’t go into all of the details, but it involved Gold and getting rich on the 3% cash back bonus awards. He is executing a similar plan on a smaller scale with one credit card. The plan is to put everything on the credit card, collect the cash back, and pocket the 3%.
Even after all of the Dave Ramsey arguments on this topic, he is still unconvinced.
The thing about this plan that would never fit with my life, even if pulled off, which I major doubts about. When you follow Dave Ramsey’s plan or something close that embraces the idea that you will not borrow money again and won’t buy something if you cannot PAY for it, it is a simpler life. Financial Peace really means PEACE. I don’t really even like looking at my retirement investments very often. I just let them be and know that by keeping the plan simple, there is inherently less stress in your life. Dave’s final stage involves investing in PAID FOR REAL ESTATE and GROWTH STOCK MUTUAL FUNDS with a proven track record.
Does it matter if you GET RICH QUICK or get rich slowly? In Dave’s world, the tortoise always wins the race. Those who complete Dave’s baby steps have set themselves up to get very rich and enjoy the ride.
Proverbs 28:20: A faithful man shall abound with blessings; But he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be unpunished.
I’ve never seen anyone sing a rock song about getting rich on the cash back bonus either. This guy is enjoying a little Dave Ramsey style freedom.
